Sujata Chinai, popularly known as Alisha Chinai, is an Indian singer. She was born on March 18, 1972. She is also known as the “Indian Madonna”. She started her singing career in Bollywood with the film Adventures of Tarzan (1985). She was noticed by well-known Indian music director and composer Bappi Lahiri. She has sung for Bappida in films like Dance Dance (1987), Commando (1988), Love Love Love (1989) etc. The songs such as “Kaate Nahin Katt Te” from the Hindi film Mr. India (1987) and “Raat Bhar Jaamse” from the Hindi film Tridev (1989) were hit and made her popular among the public. She became famous in 1996 with her solo pop album called “Made in India”. The album earned her the International Billboard Award and also the Freddie Mercury award for Artistic Excellence. She returned to Bollywood in 2002 with the song “Oh My Darling” from the Hindi film “Mujse Dosti Karoge”. She sang the hit song “Chot Dil Pe Lagi” from the Hindi film Ishq Vishq (2003). She has sung for various Hindi films such as Phool Aur Kaante (1991), Khiladi (1992), Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994), Vijaypath (1994), Raja Hindustani (1996), Aflatoon (1997), Bollywood/Hollywood (2002), Fida (2004), No Entry (2005), Dhoom 2 (2006), Don (2006) etc. Alisha’s first hit song in 2007 was the song “Its Rocking” from the Hindi film Kya Love Story Hai (2007). Her pop album “Shut Up and Kiss Me” was also released in 2007. She also appeared in the title song of the Hindi film Mumbai Salsa (2007). She won her first Filmfare Best Female Playback Singer Award in 2005, for the song Kajra Re from the Hindi film Bunty Aur Babli (2005). Her song “Seulement Vous” won the first place at the Asia 2004 International Song Festival. She was one of the judges of Indian Idol 3, a singing competition on Sony Entertainment Television channel.
