 Anu Malik is an Indian music director
and a playback singer. He is the son of well known music composer Sardar
Malik. He was born on November 02, 1957. He has 2 brothers Daboo and Abu
Malik.
He started his career as a music director with the film Hunterwali 77
(1978). Later, he composed music for the four Hindi films - Sohni Mahiwal
(1984), Mard (1985), Malamaal (1988), Ganga Jamuna Saraswathi (1988) etc. He
got his major breakthrough in 1993 with
Mahesh Bhatt's film Phir Teri
Kahaani Yaad Aayee for which he composed two songs “Tere Dar Par Sanam and
“Baadalon Mein Chhup Gaya”. He became popular among public with the music of
Hindi films like Baazigar (1993), Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994), Akele Hum
Akele Tum (1995), Virasat (1997), Duplicate (1998), China Gate (1998),
Baadshah (1999), Fiza (2000), LOC-Kargil (2003), Saaya (2003), Main Hoon Na
(2004), No Entry (2005), Jaan-E-Mann (2006) etc.
Anu composed the song for the International film Bride and Prejudice (2004).
He has released several pop albums of his own such as Dekho Baarish Ho Rahi
Hai, Tera Chehra, Dhuan Dhuan etc.
Anu was honored with the Filmfare Special Jury Award for his outstanding
contribution in music in 2000. He won the National Film Award for Best Music
Direction for the Hindi film Refugee (2000) in 2001. He has won the Filmfare
Best Music Director Award twice – once in 1994 for the Hindi film Baazigar
(1993) and second in 2005 for the Hindi film Main Hoon Na (2004).
He is married to Anju and has 2 daughters. His younger daughter Anmol made
her singing debut with the film Umrao Jaan (2006).
He was one of the judges of the first, second and third season of Indian
Idol, a singing competition on Sony Entertainment Television Channel.
Annu Malek has been judging the reality show Indian Idol for the last three
seasons and continues to be a
member of the jury for the fourth season as well. |
