Sunil
Manohar Gavaskar, popularly known as Sunny, is an Indian cricketer. He was
born on July 10, 1949 in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
Sunil graduated from the St Xavier's College in
Mumbai.
Gavaskar was named India's Best Schoolboy
Cricketer of the Year in 1966. He made his first-class debut in 1966. He
made his Test debut against West Indies on March 10, 1971. He made his ODI
debut against England on July 13, 1974. He is the first batsman to score
10,000 runs.
Gavaskar has served as an advisor to the Indian
cricket team during the home series against Australia in 2004. He is the
chairman of the ICC cricket committee. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been
instituted in his co-honor.
Gavaskar is married to Marshaniel Mehrotra. They
have a son called Rohan. Rohan is an Indian cricketer.
Gavaskar was honored with the Padma Bhushan
award in 1980. |
