| Femina Miss India is an annual, national beauty pageant held in India. It is organized by Femina, a women’s magazine and Pantaloons, a multi format retailer in India offering food, fashion, home solutions, consumer electronics, books and music, health, wellness and beauty, general merchandise, communication, leisure and entertainment products. The pageant gives opportunity to girls from all over India to come to a platform of character, style and personality and turn their dreams into reality. The Femina Miss India competition began in 1964. It has been held annually, except for 1989. Earlier it was organized by Eve’s Weekly, also a women’s magazine. The Femina Miss India winners represents India at several international pageants such as Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss Asia, Miss International and Miss Asia - Pacific, Miss Earth etc. Earlier, the three winners of Femina Miss India were designated as:  | Miss India World |  | Miss India Universe |  | Miss India Asia-Pacific | From 2002, the three winners of Femina Miss India have been recognized as:  | Miss India World |  | Miss India Universe |  | Miss India Earth | From the year 2009, Miss India World and Miss India Universe titles are given same platform and stature. Miss India Earth title is recognized as third. Parvathy Omanakuttam from Kerala was crowned with the 2008 Femina Miss India World title and she became the first runner up in Miss World 2008. Simran Kaur Mundi from Mumbai was crowned with the 2008 Femina Miss India Universe title while Tanvi Vyas from Baroda was crowned with the 2008 Femina Miss India Earth title. Previous winners and finalists of the Femina Miss India contests include the following well-known Indian film actresses: Auditions were held in 6 cities of India including Lucknow, Indore, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Pune, Nagpur from January 5, 2009 to January 12, 2009. Applications and nominations for the contests were invited from eligible participants (unmarried Indian females between 18 and 23 years of age, having a height of at least 5.7 inches). Pantaloons Femina Miss India South 2009 For candidates residing or born in South of India, a separate contest called Femina Miss India South 2009 was held on December 27, 2008. Faith Pandey was crowned with the Femina Miss India South 2009 title. She was given direct entry into the top ten finalists of the Femina Miss India 2009. Ragini Dwivedi was declared the first runner-up and Zara Shah was declared the second runner-up. The runner-ups got direct entry to the finals of the Femina Miss India 2009. Pantaloons Femina Miss India East 2009 For candidates residing or born in East or North-East region of India, a separate contest called Femina Miss India East 2009 was held on February 17, 2009. Pooja Chopra was crowned with the Femina Miss India East 2009 title. She was given direct entry into the top ten finalists of the Femina Miss India 2009. Karishma Karnik was the first runner-up and Tulip Bhattacharya was the second runner-up. They got direct entry to the finals of the Femina Miss India 2009. Candidates who miss out on the Auditions or the Femina Miss India South 2009 and Femina Miss India East 2009 were given a last chance. They were allowed to participate in the regional rounds held in Delhi and Mumbai through the National Call for Entries (CFE). The regional rounds were held on February 23, 2009 and February 25, 2009 in Delhi and Mumbai respectively. The short listed candidates from the regionals were the finalists of the main pageant. The finalists were declared after the regional rounds. The finalists were given training and grooming sessions during the month of March 2009. 20 contestants were selected after the regional rounds held in Delhi and Mumbai.
