live telecast
Hockey is the game of the common man. To spread it all the corners of India it should be telecast live on National channel so that this very common man get attached to hockey. I hope the concerned people wake up to this call. Sooner the better for Indian hockey's pride.

MDC National Stadium inaugurated (FIH Wold Cup)
The MDC National Stadium, venue for the Hero Honda FIH World Cup to be played from February 28 - March 13, 2010 was inaugurated in New Delhi by Union Sports Minister MS Gill. Mr Gill lavished rich praise on the historic venue.

"I dedicate it to the hockey lovers across the globe," Gill was quoted as saying in The Times of India. Mr Gill went on to add that the stadium was a 'brilliant architectural marvel'.

The MDC National Stadium is situated right in the heart of New Delhi opposite the historic India Gate. When built first, it was a multi-facility venue and was called the Lady Irvin Amphitheatre. It was renamed 'National Stadium' for the inaugural Asian Games held in 1951. All the disciplines of Asian Games were held at this venue.

The National Stadium was converted from a multi-purpose venue to a hockey stadium for the 1982 Asian Games. It was also for this event that India's first-ever astro-turf was laid at the stadium. The Asian Games hockey final played between India and Pakistan at this venue is still remembered to this day.

In 2002, the name was changed and it took its current name - Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, after perhaps the best hockey player the world has seen.

The Hero Honda FIH World Cup will have the top 12 teams playing with South Africa taking on Spain in the opening match. Hosts India will start their campaign by playing the last match on Day 1 against traditional rivals Pakistan.
