 Indian
Idol was a very popular Indian Television singing competition. It was based on
the international Idol series format called Pop Idol launched in UK and
American Idol launched in USA.
The first season of "Indian Idol" series started in 2004 and the first
winner was
Abhijeet Sawant. The second season won by
Sandeep Acharya
while the
third season won by
Prashant Tamang.
Sourabhee was declared
the winner of
Indian Idol 4.
The show was in its fifth season in the year
2010.
Contestants between 15 to 30
years of age were participated in the contest.
The contestants were being judged by the
following well-known celebrities from the Indian film industry:
Indian Idol 5 was a singing competition that
was premiered on April 26, 2010
and was
aired from Monday to Thursday at 9:00 pm on
Sony Entertainment Television channel. It was
being hosted by participants of the past season of Indian Idol
Abhijeet Sawant
and famous Television star and anchor
Husaain
Kuwajerwala.
Auditions were held in various cities of India
such as Kolkata, Delhi, Indore, Ahmedabad and Mumbai from March 3,
2010 to March 24, 2010. The judges had selected top 112 contestants from the
entire India. After several rounds, the judges selected the top 16
contestants. Then after public voting, a total of 6 were directly given the
entrance to top 13 (Indian Idol Gala) while out of remaining 10, only seven
were chosen by judges on the basis of their live performance at the Indian
Idol Stage. The selected top 13 were competed for the title of Indian
Idol 5.

Grand Finale was held on 9th to 12th August 2010 and 14th to 15th
August 2010. Top three finalists selected for the grand finale were
Sreeramchandra,
Bhoomi Trivedi and
Rakesh Maini.
Sreeramchandra was declared the winner
of
Indian Idol 5 on August 15, 2010.
Bhoomi Trivedi and
Rakesh Maini were finalists of
Indian Idol 5.
