 Prashant Tamang is from Indian Nepalese origin. He was born on January 4, 1983 in Darjeeling, West Bengal. He spent most of his early life there and studied in St. Roberts school. He has been singing since childhood, without any formal training. He plays pool with his friends in his spare time. He also loves to play football.
His father had breathed his last in an accident while serving for Indian police. After the patriotic demise of his father Madan Tamang, he joined the Kolkata Police Force to support his family. He sang for the police orchestra in Kolkata Police Force. His family includes his grandmother, mother and his sister.
He was selected from Kolkata audition of
Indian Idol 3 and considered to be a decent singer.
Javed Akhtar noted that his lack of training gets exposed when he tries some difficult songs. However, according to the comments of other judges in
Indian Idol 3, he is an uncut diamond and a good performer. He was an overwhelming
favorite to win
Indian Idol 3 due to strong backing from the people of Nepali origin and the Indian police force. He was also the first person from the Indian police force to enter the final rounds of
Indian Idol. He was declared as a winner of
Indian Idol Season 3 on September 23, 2007. |
