Akaashi Basavaraj was the JD(S) candidate for Assembly Constituency (Gulbarga District) 2004 Karnataka Legislative Assembly Elections.

The count of total votes polled for Assembly constituency in 2004 Karnataka Elections was 80464.

Akaashi Basavaraj of JD(S) polled the second highest number of votes (18459) and was defeated by a margin of 18547 votes. Mallikarjun Kharge of Congress won the seat with a tally of 37006 votes.
