state of Karnataka went to the polls in May 2008 to elect
224 legislators,
as declared by the Election Commission of India.
There were three phases of voting - on May 10,
May 16 and May 22, 2008. The vote counting took place on May 25, 2008.
BJP
led by
B. S. Yeddyurappa won 110 out of 224 seats
in the 2008 Karnataka Legislative Assembly Elections while
Congress won 80 seats.

Tippu was born in Devanahalli (in Karnataka) on Friday, November 20th, 1753. At the age of fifteen he used to accompany his father Hyder Ali, Ruler of Mysore State, to different military campaigns. He was a devout Muslim. He had a very inquisitive mind and fascination for learning. His personal library was consisted of more than two thousand books in different languages. Tippu was a man of simple habits, eating common food and leading pious life. He had a very dignified personality and impressed the people who came in contact with him. He was an extremely active man and worked from dawn to midnight for the welfare of his subjects. He himself drafted all his correspondence. He took over the kingdom after his father's death in 1782 A.D.
He could foresee the (British) East India Company's design to get entrenched on Indian soil, and took a vow to foil it. For this purpose he negotiated with the French and sheltered the Frenchmen who preached the French revolutionary doctrines to the public. A "Jacobean Club" was established in Tippu's capital Srirangapattana, and the French tricolor was hoisted. He also sought assistance from the Amir of Afghanistan and the Sultan of Turkey. He had already defeated the British at Wandiwash in 1783. The British were very scared of Tippu's growing strength, and they formed an alliance with the Nizam of Hyderabad State and Marathas of Maharashtra State. The French deserted Tippu after signing of the "Versailles Treaty" in Europe in 1783 when the American War of Independence ended.
As long as the British fought alone, Tippu always defeated them. But he was no match for their diplomacy, conspiracy and intrigue. Thus he was defeated in his Capital of Srirangapattana, and forced to sign a humiliating treaty on March 22nd, 1792. As a result he had to concede half of his kingdom and pay an indemnity of thirty three million Rupees to the English and their allies. Frequent wars had drained his treasury, and hence he had no hard cash to pay this huge amount. He was compelled to pledge two of his sons to the conquerors. Governor General Conrnwallis took away these two youngsters to his headquarters in Calcutta in Bengal. However, they could not suppress Tippu's spirits for long, and he rebuilt his war machine in shortest possible time. He built a fine army and modernized his administration on the European model. He was an able and fearless military strategist. | |

"It is not a right move by the Governor to ask a government which has a clear majority, to prove its strength on the floor of the house," state BJP president D V Sadananda Gowda told reporters while expressing displeasure over the Governor's decision.
"We expected the Governor to convene a joint session of both houses of legislature and address the members. But he has insisted on (the BJP) proving its majority first," Gowda said.
The cabinet at its maiden meeting chaired by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa yesterday recommended to the Governor to summon a three-day legislature session from June 4.
Yeddyurappa also announced that he would seek the trust vote, but had not disclosed whether he was taking the floor test under the Governor's directive.
In a related development, a delegation of newly sworn-in BJP ministers called on Thakur last night and requested him to set a date for his address to the joint session.
Thakur reportedly told the delegation that it was 'mandatory' for Yeddyurappa to prove the majority of his government and rejected their arguments that the election of the Speaker should be considered as floor test.
The BJP, with 110 members in the 224-member house,also has the support of six independents, taking its effective strength to 116. The required number for a simple majority is 113.
In a political move and to ensure stability of its first ever government, the BJP has awarded ministerial berths to five of the six independents. | |

One thing is very clear, congress party election by election it is defeating only for their Anti Hindu focus, and too much mingling with Tamilnadu regional parties like DMK and PMK , all these Tamil parties are anti hindu and anti-Hindi parties.hence except TN all other states people are not able to digest with this. and they are not voting Congress.
I am not just giving comparitive one, Our TN, CM Mr.Karunanithi, has never invited for the past 25 years to any Hindu priests, or even Brahamin priests just for photo not for dinner.
Such kind of racisams is going on in TN, You can see in Tamil films for the past 30 years Tamil brahamins and Hindu priests are showing as the mockery purpose, mockery to priestly dhoti, and at the same time all Tamil films are showing Christin Fathers(Church fathers) and Brothers are good people to Tamils, and also Muslims are so kind to Dravidan Tamils.
Dravidhan parties have injected bad blood to Tamils for the past 30 years that Tamil brahamins are not Tamils, they are Aryans, they are white color they hail from north..and as a proximitive Dravidan Tamils color also jet black hence they easily encash this and wins over mind of Tamils.
Now the new Dravidan Tamil present generations who are all white color like Mr.Anbumoney Ramadoss, Mrs.Kani mozhi, Bangalore settled Mrs.Tamil selvi are regretting, for vote purpose we have killed so many Brahamins life at Tamilnadu.

5)Safeguarding Karnataka Interest of Kavery water Vs Hognekal water supply to Krishnagiri district
.BJP has to fight to get the water share from centre since congress is nothing but DMK, Both are same coins.

I belong to the state of Uttar Pradesh, the land of Ram (Ayodhya), Krishna (Mathura), Shiva (Kashi) & Gateway of Godland (Haridwar, part of erstwhile undivided UP now in Uttarakhand).
But today I am ashamed of being from UP for following reasons:
* Contrary to Karnataka, where a bunch of greedy politicians like Devegowda, Kumaraswamy et al betrayed BJP in giving them their political share;
in Up, it is actually the people of Uttar Pradesh, who really betrayed the only Hindu Saviour party of the nation BJP by not awarding them for their keeping promise.
In 1991, BJP first came to power in UP driving on the Ram Lahar (promise to build Sri Ram Temple at his birthplace site in Ayodhya, where the sign of medieval period slavery i.e. Babri Mosque structure existed at that time).
BJP as a gentleman promise, kept its word and within 2 years of taking office in Up they ensured the demolition of the blot of medieval period slavery i.e. Babri Mosque structure.
Even knowingly that, an unfriendly Congress led Central Govt. will immediately terminate the duly elected UP state Government.
KALYAN SINGH, a great personality in Hindu history, didnot cared and sacrificed his remaining more than 3 years due tenure of Chief Ministership, which hev could have enjoyed easily. This was the first genuine political sacrifice ever displayed by any indian politician to keep the eloctoral promise.
But what did the people of Uttar Pradesh did was the worst ever ungreatfulness ever displayed in the history. they really betrayed BJP and more so Sh. KALYAN SINGH ji. since then they never voted BJP to majority in Up, till date and put them always in an awkward situation by giving biggest party status without majority.
* Such a situation compelled BJP to create political relationships with other parties and they also did it successfully and broke the SP-BSP alliace (Mulayam-Maya coalition)
Now second time, the people of UP betrayed BJP (specially the elactorally lazy, politically greedy so-called Upper Caste Hindus i.e. Brahmins, Thakurs; only the Baniyas are exception-they always supported BJP wholeheartedly with vote & money in all thick & thin times of BJP, despite BJP not rewarding the community with any plum posts, cabinet ministerships in NDA govt. at centre), by simultaneously punishing the BJP for supporting Mayawati/BSP and at the same time voting BSP's Brahmin & other Upper caste candidates in large numbers and Samajwadi Party's Thakur & other Upper caste candidates.
What a political hypocricy.
But there is a day of justice for everyone, not to wait in heaven now on this earth itself.
As the people of UP betrayed the true promise keeping Hindutva party - BJP, the nature punished the people of UP politically not for a day but for decades now. How?
The long myth of UP’s dominance in national politics has been vindicated. They have continuously lost their importance in Central Government from 1991. How?
Since 1991 any party who won UP never succeed to form government at centre and lost its national share. Moreso, who lost in UP (runner up) forms Govt. at centre. And the winner in UP has to become Opposition party. (Only exception in 1998 Lok Sabha Elections, when BJP + got 60 seats off from UP and succeed to form Central Government, but that was the shortest survived Lok Sabha in India till date).
As a result of this UP lagged in development, political leadership and getting funds from, getting new projects powerhouse, roads, bridges . railway lines, IT, industry, infrastructure, education et al. Today UP is sulking under Maya-Mulayam caste politics (with Satish Mishra) (with Amar Singh) respectively even behind Bihar in development.
This is the political punishment UP people are getting for their unforgivenable sin of political betrayal.
The political role of UP was further diminished in 2004 Lok Sabha polls, when the winner in UP (Mulayam-Amar Singh’s Samajwadi Party) and runner up (Mayawati-Satish Mishra’s BSP) had no role left to play in Central Govt. politics. They may cry or shout loud slogans but reality is that UP have no takers in national govt.
These parties could not bring a single extra rupee for UP from Centre, not even any worthwhile development project. Only one thing these people can do, i.e. to collect money from UP from genuine businessmen, industrialists, Transfer-postings, corruption & looting state exchequer and using this looted money for organizing rallies and tamashas out of UP like Jaipur, Chandigarh, Bhopal, Patna, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, New Delhi to serve their not national aspirations of becoming Prime Minister.
But all their efforts out of UP, wasted a lot of UP people’s money in contesting other states Assembly elections in which they draw a big zero every time. (see the election results of Gujarat, Himachal, Karnataka, Punjab etc- BSP , SP performance.)
If really, the people of UP want to repent for their political misdeeds, they should come out silently in the next General Elections India 2009 and support BJP wholeheartedly in one lotus button press, leaving behind all caste, creed, region, village, area, job-business prejudice.
As all the nation, state by state going the BJP way, it is for sure y now BJP (NDA) is set to form the next Cetral Government, Up supports or not it does not matters at all Kyunki bina UP ke bhi Kendra sarkar ban jaati hai, last 16 years had proved this.
UP has no mythical power to change the national trend, it has only option to go with the national trend and reap the benefits of it by having substantial share of Lok Sabha MP in ruling party.
But today it is the day of Kannadigas, for the display of their wisdom and giving full majority to BJP ad paving the way for all round development of Karnataka.
They shun all the caste community region barriers to hug the BJP.
Community wise, it is true that Lingayats-Brahmins supported BJP in a big way.
Also, other communities OBCs SCs STs were also contributors to BJP success.
But real thanks deserves the honest Vokkalinga community which despite Devegowda, SM Krishna in JDS, Congress respectively, supported BJP in abig way, even more than Congress & little less than JDS, this paved the way for decisive BJP victories in Bangaloreo-Mysore urban areas.
This great community displayed rare political honesty and eared the pride back for the community, which Devegowda-Kumaraswamy duo had harmed immensely, although for a short period by their immoral political behavior – the great betrayal.
Actually urban Vokkalingas supported BJP even more than JDS, it is only rural farmer Vokkalingas went to JDS, who are not that much educated and exposed to outside world, and does not know properly about the misdeeds of Devegowda clan. BJP should make efforts to reach out to them.
The BJP should also reciprocate positively ad install its state unit president Mr. Sadananda Gowda, a Vokkalinga as Deputy CM with Yediyurappa as CM and consolidate its support base among both Lingayats & Vokkalingas.
The UP Brahmins & Thakurs (who vote for BSP, SP & even Congress) should take a lesson from Vokkalingas of Karnataka and correct their political misdeeds by again supporting the BJP in Up and enjoy the benefits of overall state development. | |

I hail from Mangalore. There are three adjuscent districts, Udupi,Mangalore and Kasaragod(Kerala) having almost similar culture, language(Kannada, tulu and numerous other languages) etc. All these districts are relatively well developed having all the basic amenities.(It is all by the hard work, cash crops and god gifted natural facilities. Govt did nothing). Farmers from these districts do not migrate to other places due to the lack of basic ameneties in their area. Education level is very high in these districts. (To be noted here is, BJP is very strong in all three districts).
During summer there are lot of farmers from north of Karnataka(Gulbarga, Raiture etc.) migrate to these districts for the want of earnings and basic ameneties. They say, niru illari, krishi hege madudu, Kudiva nirige milugattale dura hogabeku. This is the state of the farmers in remote areas of Karnataka even after 40years of rule by the congress. They live the life of medivial age. Surprisingly most of them are congree followers even now. That is their ignorance level.
Nehru used to say during his initial independence speaches that the migration of the farmers for the want of basic ameneties is the last thing we should expect in the independent India. But you see here, directly under the nose of congress govt. what is happening. Any body bothers. This is happaning every year. Even now if go to these three districts you will find these migrants. They will go back once the rain starts.
To be noted here is, in Gujarat no farmer migrates for the want of basic ameneties. They have all in their villages. | |

NDTV conducted an exit poll for third phase of Karnataka elections, and in this round too the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to march ahead of others. The exit poll shows an overall swing in favour of the BJP.
In the 69 seats that went to polls in the third phase, BJP is predicted to win 30-40 seats that is a little more than last time.
Congress is expected to do a little better than last time as well with 20-30 seats and the JDS is expected to win 10-12 seats.
Overall, the BJP is projected to win 95-115 seats that is close to the halfway mark and the Congress is projected to win 55-75 seats, and the JDS 45-55 seats.
With the end of final round of polls, the overall projections for 224-member Karnataka Assembly is now clear.
Karnataka election was held under the new delimitation of constituencies, which means all the 224 constituencies have been re-drawn.
The aim was to try and make every constituency of about the same size, the result is urban areas have got many more seats and rural areas less seats.
This should in itself help the BJP because the BJP has always done better in urban areas than rural areas. | |
