Sunidhi Chauhan is a well-known Indian playback singer. She was born on August 14, 1984. Sunidhi started her singing career at the age of 4. She had participated in and won several competitions in her childhood. She was a member of the “Little Wonders” group formed by renowned music director Kalyanji. She had participated in and had won the Meri Aawaz Suno, a singing competition on Doordarshan. She was awarded the Lata Mangeshkar Trophy for the best female singer of India in the contest. As a winner she had won a contract to release a music album with HMV, an audio company in India. She released her first solo music album Aira Gaira Nathu Khaira with HMV. Sunidhi started her singing career with the film Shastra (1996). Later she sang in the Hindi films such as Veergati (1995), Dahek (1999), Bade Dilwala (1999) etc. Sandeep Chowta, a well-known Bollywood music director gave her the major breakthrough with the Hindi film Mast (1999). She became popular with the song “Ruki Ruki Si Zindagi” from the same film. She became famous with the songs such as Mehboob Mere from the Hindi film Fiza (2000), Ishq Samundar from the Hindi film Kaante (2002), Bhaage Re Mann and Sajna Ve Sajna from the Hindi film Chameli (2004) etc. She has sung for various Hindi films such as Sur (2002), Dhoom (2004), Musafir (2004), Dus (2005), Parineeta (2005), Bunty Aur Babli (2005), Bluffmaster (2005), Dhoom 2 (2006), Omkara (2006), Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd (2007), Ta Ra Rum Pum (2007), Cash (2007), Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag (2007) etc. Sunidhi has won several awards for playback singing such as: • 2000 Filmfare R. D. Burman Award for new music talent. • 2001 R. D. Burman Award for the most promising newcomer. • 2004 Star Screen Best Female Playback Singer Award for the song “Sajna Ve Sajna” from the film Chameli (2004). • 2005 IIFA Best Female Playback Singer Award for the song “Dhoom Machale” from the film Dhoom (2004). • 2007 Filmfare Best Female Playback Singer Award for the song “Beedi” from the Hindi film Omkara (2006). Sunidhi had sung the English song “Reach Out” at the opening ceremony of the 2006 Asian Games at Doha, Qatar. She has also sung the songs for the Hindi dubbed version of the Disney Channel Original Movie High School Musical. She was hired by Microsoft, an American multinational computer technology corporation to sing the Window Vista Song titled “Wow is Now” during the launch of Window Vista in India in February 2007. Sunidhi married music video director and producer Bobby Khan in 2002 at the age of 18. The duo got separated in 2003.
