Preity Zinta is an Indian film actress. She was born on January 31, 1975 in Shimla. Her father Durganand Zinta was an officer in the Indian Army. He died in a car accident when she was thirteen. She has 2 brothers, Deepankar and Manish. Deepankar is an officer in the Indian Army while Manish is settled in Los Angeles. Preity started her career as a model. Her first commercial ad was for Perk chocolates in 1996. Later, she did an ad for Liril soap. She made her acting debut with the film Dil Se (1998). Her second film was Soldier which was released in 1998. She had won the 1999 Filmfare Best Female Debut Award for both the films. Later, she acted in two Telugu films Premante Idera (1998) and Raja Kumarudu (1999). Her first release in 2000 was the Hindi film Kya Kehna which turned out to be a box office success. Mil Gaya (2003), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), Lakshya (2004), Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha (2004), Veer-Zaara (2004), Khullam Khulla Pyaar Karen (2005), Salaam Namaste (2005), Krrish (2006), Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), Jaan-E-Mann (2006), Jhoom Barabar Jhoom (2007) etc. Her first English film was The Last Lear which was premiered at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival. She has taken part in several stage shows and world tours since 2001. She is brand ambassador of GoAir. She is the co-owner of the Indian Premier League team Kings XI Punjab.
