Deepika Padukone is an Indian model and a Bollywood actress. She is the daughter of former badminton champion Prakash Padukone. She was born on January 5, 1986 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her mother Ujjala is a travel agent. Deepika finished her schooling from Sophia's High School, Bangalore and graduated from Mount Carmel College, also in Bangalore. She was a member of the dance club run by her father. Deepika has modeled for brands like Liril soap, Parachute Oil, Dabur, Limca, Levis jeans, Close-Up, Moods condoms etc. She hit the international scene when Maybelline, a cosmetic brand made her their new international cover-girl face. She won the 2005 Model of the Year title at the Lakme India Fashion Week. She also won the Female Model of The Year title and Fresh Face of The Year title at the 2006 Idea Zee Fashion Awards. Deepika was chosen as one of the models for the 2006 Kingfisher Swimsuit Calendar and is the brand ambassador for Kingfisher Airlines. Deepika learnt acting from Anupam Kher, a well-known Indian film actor and dance under Shiamak Davar, an Indian choreographer. She has acted in the music video of Naam Hai Tera, a song from Himesh Reshammiya’s pop album Aap Ka Suroor in 2006. Her first film was a Kannada movie called Aishwarya (2006). She made her Bollywood debut with the Farah Khan directed Hindi film Om Shanti Om (2007) opposite Shah Rukh Khan. She won the 2007 Filmfare Best Female Debut award and Sony Head N Shoulders Fresh Face of the Year Award on February 23, 2008.
